About Me &
my passion for flowers
Hi, my name is Maria and
my story goes like this…
My passion for flowers was accidental but one of the best things that has ever happened to me. While growing up, I was very shy and insecure, but I found a way to express myself and that was through my art. In my mid-teens I received an opportunity I will always cherish and that was when I was asked if I was interested in joining the floral department in my school. Without hesitation I said “Yes!”. The class opened my eyes to a completely different world, a world full of never-ending ideas and creations.
I was left with a desire to learn and expand my skills and knowledge to places unimaginable. I started expressing myself more through flowers and testing the boundaries of endless ideas. Flowers gave me confidence, gave me security, and more importantly gave me a better me.
With over 15 years’ experience in the floral industry and 10 years’ experience in the wedding flower industry, my knowledge in both retail and events is invaluable.
My floral experience consists of 12 years as a floral designer in a family owned flower shop based in Southern California. I started working there part-time and after graduation I became a full-time designer.
After 2 years there, I became our wedding designer’s assistant and a couple of years later, I took on the role of head wedding designer. I loved every minute of it!
The Nudge Needed
A few years later, I moved to the UK and started working for a flower shop in Cambridge. I spent 3 years working there and felt like my skills and knowledge were not being used to their full potential.
One evening, I started talking with a close friend and he suggested I start up my own business. He told me that with the experience, skills, and knowledge I have there is no reason I should not pursue it. I did not take him seriously, but the idea stayed in my mind, so I did the research on what it would take and after careful consideration I decided to do it.
The journey to establish myself has not been easy but I’m glad and thankful to him and everyone else who has helped me along the way for me to get to where I am now. I absolutely love what I do. The thrill and excitement I get from the challenges of new and different ideas is indescribable.
But the biggest reason I do what I do is because I love the expressions and feedback I get from every person whose day has been made perfect by my flowers.
